Destination: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Trip Length: Wedding week stay
Type of Trip: Destination wedding + resort stay
Travel Style: Celebration-focused, all-inclusive, relaxed with structured events
Group Size: Couple + 50 wedding guests
This wedding was designed to feel like a shared experience—not just a ceremony, but a full weekend spent together in a beautiful setting.
Our main goals were to:
Choose a resort that could handle logistics smoothly while still feeling personal
Keep décor elegant and simple without excessive add-ons
Prioritize guest experience (food, drinks, flow of events)
Maintain flexibility while still having a clear timeline
Avoid unnecessary upsells and focus spending where it mattered most
Simplify guest logistics with shared transportation and a group excursion that felt like a celebration, not an obligation
Rather than spreading events out, we kept everything contained and easy within the resort.
Pre-Wedding Day:
Welcome dinner for all guests in a ballroom
Steakhouse menu with vegetarian options
Opportunity to gather everyone together the night before
Wedding Day:
Morning hair and makeup at the spa
First look and pre-ceremony photos
Beachfront ceremony on the Chill Out Rooftop
Sunset cocktail hour
Reception at La Palapa
In addition to the wedding events, we also coordinated shared guest experiences to make travel and downtime easier and more enjoyable. We arranged airport transportation services for our guests and planned a private half-day catamaran snorkeling trip, coordinating guest payments directly so participation felt optional, easy, and stress-free.
This structure made it easy for guests to move between events without confusion or stress.
Timing & Pacing
Planning began in May 2024 for a February 2025 wedding
Thursday wedding date secured a 20% discount
Morning prep was calm and unhurried
Built-in buffer time between ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception
The evening flowed naturally without feeling rushed
The pacing allowed us to be present and actually enjoy each part of the day.
Resort wedding package
Dedicated on-site coordinator
Custom ceremony script written by us
External photographer & videographer (with external vendor fee)
MC and DJ coordination forms
Even without a destination wedding travel agent, the resort team handled execution extremely well once we arrived.
There were so many moments that made the day unforgettable:
Seamless airport transportation for guests, which eliminated arrival-day stress
A private catamaran snorkeling excursion that felt like a floating celebration with our favorite people
Seeing all of our guests together at the welcome dinner
Calm, joyful hair and makeup time at the spa (with champagne)
A smooth, heartfelt ceremony using a script we wrote
A sunset cocktail hour with live tropical music
A reception that felt intimate, lively, and perfectly paced
Impromptu speeches that we hadn’t even planned, but will always treasure
Guest Transportation & Catamaran Excursion
We assisted our guests with finding flights for their round-trip airport transportation, which ended up being one of the best decisions we made. It removed uncertainty, helped everyone arrive relaxed, and set the tone for a smooth weekend.
We also planned a private catamaran snorkeling trip as a half-day group experience. Guests opted in, we coordinated payments ahead of time, and the result was an effortless, joy-filled excursion that felt more like a celebration than an itinerary item. Snorkeling, open water views, and time together made it a highlight of the entire trip.
Working with our On-site Wedding Coordinator
Our wedding coordinator was truly wonderful. She handled details calmly, helped us pivot when we made last-minute decisions (like adding an MC), and ensured the timeline stayed on track throughout the night.
Hair & Makeup at the Spa
The spa experience was relaxed and reassuring, exactly what we needed on wedding day. The stylist nailed both hair and makeup with minimal direction, and with a premium discount made it very affordable.
The Ceremony
We kept décor simple and elegant with what was included in the package: huppa, white carpet, lanterns, and white chair sashes. The only stressful moment was being asked about aisle music 15 minutes before the ceremony, but everything still came together beautifully.
The Reception at La Palapa
This was truly perfect for us. The décor was exactly as requested, the MC handled name pronunciations and timeline flawlessly, and the Mediterranean buffet was a hit. The open bar was generous, and the bartenders made sure we were always taken care of.
What the Wedding Was Really Like
There were a few stressful moments behind the scenes, organizing the room block ourselves, navigating a sold-out resort, and making last-minute decisions, but once the events began, everything felt seamless.
We were pleasantly surprised by how well the resort handled security, timing, and guest flow. Knowing there was a guard preventing wedding crashers gave us peace of mind we hadn’t even thought about beforehand.
Most importantly, we actually enjoyed our wedding day. We weren’t rushed, we weren’t overwhelmed, and we were surrounded by people we love in a beautiful setting.
We were intentional about where we spent:
Researched and coordinated airport transportation to simplify guest arrivals
Organized a private catamaran snorkeling trip, managing guest payments directly to keep costs transparent and optional
Chose a Thursday wedding for a significant package discount
Used the included décor rather than renting extras
Paid the external vendor fee to bring our own photographer and videographer using Services in Exchange for Travel (well worth it)
Covered hair and makeup costs for the bridal party using the spa discount
Selected buffet dining that felt elevated but efficient for guests
This wedding reflects a mid-range destination wedding budget for an all-inclusive resort, with value coming from bundled services, venue coordination, and guest convenience.
Costs were shaped primarily by the wedding package, external vendors, room accommodations, and guest events. The value came from not having to manage dozens of separate vendors and logistics ourselves.
A similar wedding could be adjusted by changing guest count, package tier, décor upgrades, or vendor choices.
On-site coordinators make a huge difference, communication is key
Thursday weddings can offer meaningful cost savings
Simple décor can still feel elegant in a beachfront setting
An MC is absolutely worth it for flow and guest experience
Bringing your own trusted photographer/videographer can elevate everything
Destination weddings are less about perfection, and more about presence
Coordinating airport transportation dramatically improves guest experience
Optional group excursions create connection without forcing schedules
Managing guest payments upfront reduces awkwardness and last-minute stress
Our wedding in Punta Cana was everything we hoped for and more. It felt personal without being complicated, celebratory without being overwhelming, and relaxed without sacrificing structure.
If we could do it all over again, we wouldn’t change a thing.
Destination weddings come with big decisions, but they don’t have to feel stressful. Whether you’re navigating resort packages, coordinating vendors, or deciding what truly matters to you and your guests, thoughtful planning makes all the difference. If you’re considering a destination wedding and want help thinking through the details, trade-offs, and flow of events, we’re always happy to share what we learned and help you plan a celebration that feels like you.
